DESCRIPTION: SEASONS | THUTE THO CHELE
The traditional methods of cultivating paddy in the Naga community are deeply rooted in their rich cultural heritage & have been passed down through generations. These methods not only sustain their livelihood but also hold significant cultural & social importance.
One of the unique aspects of traditional Naga paddy cultivation is the use of folk songs that are sung by farmers during various stages of the cultivation process. Folk songs play a vital role as they are believed to invoke blessings from the spirits & deities that are integral to the Naga belief system, seek blessings for a bountiful harvest & protection from pests/diseases & aspirations for a prosperous crops & a good yield.
These songs not only provide spiritual guidance & motivation to the farmers but also help preserve the rich heritage of the Naga people. By blending music, tradition, & agriculture, Naga paddy cultivation stands as a testament to the harmony between nature & culture in this vibrant community.
In essence, the traditional methods of Naga paddy cultivation are not just a means of food production but a way of life deeply rooted in culture & tradition. The accompanying folk songs serve as a testament to the resilience, unity, hardwork & spiritual connection that Naga people have with the land they till. As modernization seeps into these remote hills, these traditional practices & songs stand as a reminder of the rich agricultural heritage of the Naga people, carrying forward the wisdom of their ancestors into the future.
